Battery management systems are key to lengthen en secure the lifetime of the battery.
Key parameters that are being measured and controlled are voltage, current & temperature.
The ‘State of Health’ is the resulting parameter that indicates the remaining capacity of the battery as a percentage of the original maximum operational capacity. For stationary applications, most of the calculations on operational life time and deviated other calculations are based on a minimum level of 80%. After that the ‘standard economical lifetime’ of a battery is over.
In the e-Vehicle business, 70% is nowadays used as the minimum.
In both cases, batteries can be used below these values, but of course, it is possible that one needs to adapt the sizing of the system.
